Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening treatments can help patients with a desire to achieve a whiter and brighter smile. Over time, our teeth can accumulate food and drink stains. Aging can also lead to darker and dull teeth. Nowadays, many people are looking to reverse staining effects by opting for modern teeth whitening procedures. At Kids & Adult Dental Care in Indianapolis, we provide various teeth whitening options that will restore the aesthetics of your smile.

Reasons for Teeth Discoloration and Stains

  • Eating and drinking staining foods
  • Stains caused by prescription drugs like tetracycline
  • Spots caused due to excessive fluoride intake taken during growing up years

Teeth Whitening Treatments at Our Office

Home-Whitening Trays
A home professional whitening system can be provided through our dental office. We fabricate customized plastic trays after impressions of your teeth. The whitening gel must be placed in your whitening trays and placed firmly over your teeth. As the peroxide radicals in the gel break down, they help whiten stained teeth. We will instruct you to wear the gel-filled trays for a recommended length of time. This process will bleach all-natural teeth. The gel contains ingredients that do not cause any irritation or discomfort. Generally, the at-home professional whitening treatment takes about ten to fourteen days to reflect its results. Periodic touch-ups will help maintain your beautiful bright smile.

In-Office Teeth Whitening
In-office teeth whitening treatments are quick and convenient and usually can be completed in a single office visit. Before beginning your procedure, our dentist will examine and clean your teeth to prepare them for the whitening treatment. We will also check to ensure there are no severe problems with your teeth or gums that the treatment could aggravate.

Then we will place a protective rubber shield over the gums, and the bleaching gel is spread on the teeth uniformly. The main benefit of having your teeth professionally whitened is that we can supervise treatment and use a more robust bleaching solution than what is available over the counter. We will also work to minimize any tooth sensitivity.

After applying the whitening gel, our dentist will leave it on the teeth for about twenty minutes. The whitening gel contains a bleaching agent, either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. The bleach will break up the stubborn stains and discoloration, diluting the stains' concentration and making the teeth look brighter.
